Mexican painter and feminist icon Frida Kahlo gained notoriety for her works that raised awareness of issues relating to gender, ethnicity, and class in Mexican society. She was known for having a monobrow and a little moustache, and her self-portraits frequently questioned the gender stereotypes that were established in Mexican culture.
In her self-portrait titled "Self-Portrait with Chopped Hair," Kahlo is shown seated on a chair, wearing an enormous coat, and holding a pair of scissors in her hand after cutting off her hair. Kahlo is shown in the image, which was made after her divorce from Mexican painter Diego Rivera, gazing intensely and almost masculinely at the observer. Kahlo represents feminism by shaving her head and dressing in men's clothing.
